About Squarehead Teachers

Well, I’m a travel loving, cookie eating, bright color obsessed teacher who just can’t get enough of blogging or Photoshop. I’ve taught various grades from Kindergarten to Undergraduate courses in both in the United States and in China, teaching everything from dance and PE to English and math. I come from a family of educators, and believe that all teachers (public, private, charter and home school) are grossly under appreciated and deserve a little extra help. I started my Squarehead Teachers blog in August 2012 with the hope that I can be that extra little help that makes teachers feel a little more loved!

Wordpillar: Words of the Week

This one can be used for spelling or vocabulary words. Have the students write their words (up to 10) on any line. Then color each of the Wordpillar’s sections according to the part of speech of the word they’ve written.  To get this worksheet, right click on the worksheet and select “save image as” so it will save to your computer and you can choose what size to print it. Enjoy!

Turning in Papers

There are many ways teachers collect papers. Personally, because I collected every paper, I needed something a bit more specific. I had a stack of file trays that were labeled for math, reading, writing, science/social studies, other. That way, I wouldn’t have to sort papers near as much when I put them in my grade book. Here are a few other ideas I’ve seen:

Here’s a GENIUS idea I just saw: the teacher had made magnets with different locations where students should turn in papers. She’d stick the magnet on the board next to the item on the to do list. That way, the kids would know where they should put each paper and she wouldn’t have to repeat herself or write the directions day after day. So Smart!

Famous Americans: Writing Page Download

I recently saw this cute worksheet for a unit on Famous Americans. I thought it was very easy and would be great for teaching about main ideas (only including important details from the person’s life) and for reinforcing correct paragraph structure.
