About Squarehead Teachers

Well, I’m a travel loving, cookie eating, bright color obsessed teacher who just can’t get enough of blogging or Photoshop. I’ve taught various grades from Kindergarten to Undergraduate courses in both in the United States and in China, teaching everything from dance and PE to English and math. I come from a family of educators, and believe that all teachers (public, private, charter and home school) are grossly under appreciated and deserve a little extra help. I started my Squarehead Teachers blog in August 2012 with the hope that I can be that extra little help that makes teachers feel a little more loved!

Christmas/Winter Story Starter Pages (free!)

Sometimes, I need a self-explanatory writing page (especially for the kids who finish a project faster than others). Here are some winter/Christmas themed story starters that students can continue with all the way to final drafts if you’d like. I figure there’s never a down side to having lots of writing projects available! To save the page to your computer, right click the page and choose “save image as.” Happy holidays!

A few teachers have requested a final draft page with the same picture. Here they are. If your students can’t write this small, have them use 2 lines, giving then a “half way line” for forming letters.

Holiday Multiplication Facts Bingo (free!)

Use this math practice activity to review multiplication facts (up to 9 x 9). There are 5 different boards, so there will be some variety among the players. Teachers call out a simple math problem (“4 x 3″) and students can mark a space if it contains the total. Students should also record the entire number sentence at the bottom of the page (“4 x 3 = 12″). Click the following links for the PDF boards:

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Grammar Book

Another grammar book for the holidays! This book has 6 days’ worth of short passage reading/grammar practice. Should only take a few minutes each day for upper grades (more for lower grades, maybe better as a whole class activity). Enjoy!

Holiday Number Patterns (free worksheet!)

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas Grammar Practice Book (Upper Grades)

Here’s a grammar practice book I put together to squeeze in a little more grammar during the holidays. Each day (there are 9 days’ worth) the students read part of the story and do some simple grammar exercises with the passage. Then they are asked to illustrate the passage (built-in fast finisher for your quicker students). I’m doing these as daily warm ups, but it’s go well pretty much anywhere I think. Happy holidays!

NOTE: A second grade teacher emailed me about her experience with this packet. She said her kids were fine on everything but the first page, which was a little bit hard for them. She says the rest of the pages will be the perfect challenge for them, as well as upper grades.
