Freebies For Teachers (Various Companies/Stores)

I just got this in an email from a friend, and thought I’d share it with you! Who doesn’t love freebies, right!? (Confirm these deals with your local store just to make sure it applies in your area.)

Chick-Fil-A

On May 7th (2013) from 10:30AM – Close, participating Chick-Fil-A locations across the country will be offering up a free chicken sandwich to all educators, teachers, faculty and staff with a valid school/teacher ID. Please note that my friend personally called several Chick-Fil-A locations across the country to verify participation – some were not participating at all, one was participating on May 10th instead of May 7th and one location was offering a free small milkshake for the entire week. With that being said, it would be a good idea to call your local Chick-Fil-A to verify participation.

Announcing Squarehead Teachers Ad Swap

I’m starting a new ad swapping program. Swapping ads with me means that we all win – traffic to your site via traffic to (and from) mine. I’m starting small meaning we’ll swap ads for a few months or so and see where things go. If you’re interested, click here.

Also, I’ve been trying to research Passionfruit Ads for blog advertising. Any thoughts?

Desks With No Storage? No Problem!

Sometimes teachers don’t get the desks they’d like. Some teachers prefer tables, others like storage space down the side of the desk, etc. But what happens when you don’t get what you’d like? You just have to make it work. Here’s what one teacher did when she changed schools and ended up with only tables… no storage at all!

P1030264

Each table has a crate that holds everyone’s folders (color coded by subject). All the supplies (scissors, crayons, etc.) are in different tubs at the back of the room. Backpacks go on chairs, so the kids don’t need cubbies or anything. Things go straight into the backpacks, or they are filed away into these crates. There’s also a crate coordinator, the person at the table who makes sure all the folders are organized and brings the crate to the front and to the table as directed by the teacher.

P1030265This teacher told me it’s not ideal obviously, but after practicing routines associated with the crates, it’s a very do-able system now.

Installing This Blog Button Almost Killed Me!

Wow. Glad that’s over. I’ve been trying to install my blog button with the grab box (which you should grab from my side bar, by the way). I’ve spent about 2 hours designing the button on Photoshop, researching tutorials, trying tutorials (and having them all FAIL), researching another one… you get the picture. Well, I finally got it! Hooray! I know there are different codes out there you can use, but here’s the WordPress tutorial I used. Hope this helps someone out there! Good luck!

A few months ago, I was in a 2nd grade classroom and had the following comical conversation with two of the boys:

Boy 1: “Say this 2 times fast: two”

Me: “two two”

Boy 1: <laughing hysterically >

Me: “Do you know what a tutu is?”

Boy 1: “Yeah, it’s the dress that dance girls wear.”

Me: “Yes. Ballerinas wear tutus.”

Boy 2:”And the dance boys wear skinny jeans!”

Boy 1: “Yeah, I’m wearing skinny jeans today just like those dance boys!”

Boy 2: “I’m wearing skinny jeans too! I could be a dance boy in these pants.”
