About Squarehead Teachers

Well, I’m a travel loving, cookie eating, bright color obsessed teacher who just can’t get enough of blogging or Photoshop. I’ve taught various grades from Kindergarten to Undergraduate courses in both in the United States and in China, teaching everything from dance and PE to English and math. I come from a family of educators, and believe that all teachers (public, private, charter and home school) are grossly under appreciated and deserve a little extra help. I started my Squarehead Teachers blog in August 2012 with the hope that I can be that extra little help that makes teachers feel a little more loved!

Create Your Own Holiday Number Matching Worksheet

Holiday create STICKER

Last year, I posted a Holiday Number Matching worksheet. I received a request to make a blank one for teachers to write their own numbers and specify what they wanted their students to match it to. Fractions, decimals, percents, fact families! There are infinite possibilities of number conversions!

Graham Cracker Buildings – Social Studies Activity

Social studies lends itself to tons of cool cultural and historical activities. We recently created historic buildings using graham crackers and frosting. It was a bit messy, but it was a blast and some of the buildings turned out really well!

Here’s Big Ben in London England:

Here’s the Santa Catalina Arch in Antigua, Guatemala: Graham Cracker Building - Santa Catalina ArchFirst we wrapped cardboard in tin foil (secured with tape). Then we put tons of frosting in ziplock baggies and cut a small corner off. We had some candy for decorations, but I don’t think it was necessary. We also used straight pretzels and other edibles as building materials. It was educational, but also delicious!

Get to Know Your Reading Buddy/Neighbor

My Neighbor sticker When I was in elementary school, my class was always partnered with another class so we could do “Reading Buddies.” My school always partnered a younger grade class with an upper grade class so we could get together and read each month. This provided us a unique opportunity to read to/listen to another student. Each kid was assigned a kid from the other class and we were partners the whole year. We occasionally did a craft or something with our reading buddies as well. Anyway, it was fun to get to know my partner as the year went on.

My Buddy sticker

This inspired me to make 2 little “get to know you” pages that teachers can use within their own classroom or between classrooms of students in an arrangement like “Reading Buddies.

Giant Spider Web (Classroom Halloween Decoration)

Check out this cool Halloween decoration idea submitted by a reader! She purchased a cheap spider web (the wad of web in a bag for a few bucks) and then stretched it out  around the legs of student desks. Have your own cool idea! Send it to me at squareheadteachers at gmail dot com!
