This project would have been SO COOL to try with my sixth graders! It’s a geometric paper mask that would be awesome when colored/painted. There’s a free printable and directions at this website. I would try it on your own first before attempting it with your class. Also, be sure to remind your students that they will only get one printable, so go slowly and carefully through the project. This project will definitely take more than one class period, so be sure to plan time for it and get a plan of how to preserve each student’s pieces in between sessions. In addition, make sure kids are proficient with using scissors first. This could be a cool end-of-the-year activity. These are so cool!

Bunny Hat Craft for Kids
This craft made me laugh out loud when I saw the picture. Naturally, I had to share it with you. This bunny hat craft is very simple so children as young as preschool could make it with help. There’s even a nice tutorial at Busy Bee Kids Crafts. Enjoy!
Rainbow Fish Activities (2)
A few days ago, I wrote about the Children’s book, Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. Click here for the original post. I found a few more fun activities that can help you continue your focus on social skills and high morals.
Retell the story and act it out using decorated clothespins as scales (source).

Glue pieces of tissue paper and googly eyes onto paper plates (source unknown).

Decorate old CD’s with sequins and glitter (source unknown).
Rainbow Fish Activities (1)
The Children’s book, Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, has always had a special spot in my heart. From the time it was published in 1992, I have loved the illustrations, and especially the morals (sharing and humility brings happiness). The author has since published many more books that teach about character and social skills (click here for more information). I think these books are perfect for classrooms, especially since schools are being given more and more responsibility for teaching children basic character and social skills. So here are a few activities to do after reading the book. Use each activity as an opportunity to discuss these character traits and social skills with your class.
Trace hands and make fancy fish (source).

Create a class wall piece showing the qualities of a friend (source).

Paint bubble wrap and then press it onto paper like it’s a stamp (source).
President’s Day Craft for Kids
This is a craft that I did in first or second grade for President’s Day. It’s pretty easy and it turns out really adorable! A few simple cuts and you’ve got a silhouette of President Abraham Lincoln! I’ve put together a printable tutorial page (with words and pictures) to help you out. I’m so grateful for America’s Founding Fathers who stood for righteous principles and laid a foundation for our great country! Enjoy!

Chinese New Year Craft: Paper Lanterns Tutorial
I love these paper lanterns. When we lived in China, there were lots of lanterns all over the place during Chinese New Year. They’re a great craft to make with kids. Here’s my tutorial on how to make them out of construction paper. Click on each image to enlarge the image.
- You’ll need a sheet of construction paper. Cut off a strip from the side (the long length) so it can he used as the handle.
- Fold it in half “hot dog style.”
- Then fold up the edges…
- …so that it looks like this.
- turn it sideways (so the opening is away from your stomach). Then make several cuts up to the fold, about an inch apart/
- Fold the open sides towards each other, making a circle with the corners touching.
- It will look like this when you’re holding it.
- Staple or tape the edges at the top and bottom.
- It should be able to stand up on its own. Then grab your strip to be used as a handle.
- Attach the handle at the top using tape or staples. Ta-da! Finished paper lantern!
