The 3rd grade science standards for the common core include studying environments. I’m going to use this worksheet to help assess student understanding of various environments. After we talk about the commonly found environments (deserts, wetlands, etc.), I’m going to hand this out and see what my kids have retained.

This picture was too cute not to use. So I turned it into a story starter for spring. Have your students review the parts of a story and then plan each part of their story (using the attached planning page) before they get to work on any of their drafts. Once they’ve had a peer edit it, and they’ve written their final draft, they can color the large version of the picture and display it with their final piece. Super fun, and super cute. What’s not to love!?

One of my favorite parts of teaching 6th grade is the chance to teach ancient civilizations as part of social studies. Here’s my graphic organizer for summarizing the contributions of ancient civilizations. I’ve been asked why I like to put a blank box on my graphic organizers. Well, I like to let kids draw a picture of the ideas because it seems to help the ideas stick in their brains. You know what they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words!

Learning how to “carry” numbers from the ones place to the tens place is hard for kids. When you’re learning this skill (used in double digit addition), there’s no such thing as too much practice. Here’s one of my series of 3 addition worksheets (for lower grades).

Word clouds are really trendy right now. I was playing around with them and came up with this worksheet. Kids will color each word a certain color if it’s a certain type of word (proper noun, common noun, other). Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I recently worked with a 4th grader on finding equivalent decimals and fractions. It inspired me to make this St. Patrick’s Day worksheet about it. I tried to use common fractions (1/3, 1/4, 1/2, etc.) This worksheet is appropriate for upper grades. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

One of the most important parts of learning is to be able to connect the content to your own life. This is what I’m trying to help my students do with this worksheet on states of matter (3rd grade common core standard for science). When completing this page (identifying states of matter), I encourage the kids to find answers in their own lives: in the classroom, at their house, etc. This page works well as a homework page, so kids can walk around their house looking for states of matter.
