The school year is winding down, and it’s time to thank all those people who’ve helped make this year a success! Here are two printable thank you certificates you and your students can write and present to parents, other teachers and staff who’ve been helpful! You can also use this during teacher or staff appreciation week.

I’m a firm believer in teaching kids to thank others and give compliments. This printable is intended to give kids a space to write a short friendship note to 3 classmates. You can do this activity for Valentine’s Day, the end of the year, or whenever your class needs some bonding. I recommend printing one page for each kid so they can write 3. You may even consider assigning one or all of the recipients to ensure everyone gets one. In addition, It may be a good idea to read them before they’re distributed just in case…

The children’s book, Rainbow Fish, has been the subject of a few posts recently (click here and here for the previous posts). Rainbow Fish has so many good applications to character development. In the book, Rainbow Fish learns that he has more friends when he shares. Here’s one more activity you can use to develop this theme of what real friendship looks like. To complete the activity, students are directed to only color in the fish that have characteristics of real friendship.

This piqued my interest (I’m all about free stuff!), so I did some research.They have a free membership and a paid membership. Here’s what you get in the free membership (as quoted from their website):
I couldn’t find details about exactly what free DVD you get every year, but it’s worth investigating! There are always resources seeking your money and there are plenty of awesome teacher resources out there for sale. But if you’re like me and don’t have the luxury of extra funds, this might be a cool option. Here’s a link to the FAQ if you want more information.

This idea came from a first grade teacher. She’s got a laminated poster (with a bunch of blank space on it) on her wall. Everyday, the class reviews things they learned that day. She’s got the students in a rotation schedule so everyone gets to be the scribe. The students like writing on the poster and it’s a great end-of-the-day review. Here’s her poster:

It made me think of a few things:
I’ve created this thank you printable (3 color options: blue, green and pink) to make it easier to show your appreciation to your fellow faculty and staff members. I know I don’t always have the budget or time to get a gift for each person who helps me in my job (librarian, cafeteria staff, maintenance staff, office workers, aides, etc.). So if you’re like me, feel free to print this page and attach some goodies (Snickers, Smarties and peanuts/any peanut candy). Be sure to write the recipient’s name in the blank space at the bottom. (These are also great for PTA/PTO groups doing teacher appreciation day.) Spread the love and your school will be all the better for it!
